Sberbank says number of cyberattack efforts triples in Jan–Jun

VLADIVOSTOK, Sep 7 (PRIME) -- The number of efforts of cybercriminals to attack Russia’s biggest bank Sberbank soared to 1.849 million in January–June from 517,000 in the same period of 2016, Deputy Chairman Stanislav Kuznetsov said on Thursday at the Eastern Economic Forum.

According to the central bank, losses from cyberattacks in January–June reached 500–600 billion rubles with “a slight decreasing trend,” Kuznetsov said.

“We affirm that the statistics are complicated. There will be hardly a company that would say: I was attacked, they stole this amount of money. Many keep silence. We dare say that the statistics differ,” he said.

The central bank said the number of unsanctioned operations with cards in the country was slightly above 100,000 incidents in January–June.
